PERBEDAAN ANTARA CLAUSE dan Phrase

Clause adalah sekelompok kata yang membentuk kalimat namun ia tidak memiliki makna yang lengkap. Clause terdiri dari subjek dan predikat yang mengandung kata kerja, namun maknanya belum lengkap sehingga perlu disandingkan dengan clause lain sehingga ia memiliki makna kalimat yang lengkap. Terdapat clause yang bisa berdiri sendiri tanpa disandingkan dengan clause lain. Ia disebut independent clause. Sedangkan clause yang tidak dapat berdiri sendiri disebut dependent clause.

Sedangkan Phrase adalah sekelompok dari dua kata atau lebih yang tidak memiliki subjek dan predikat. Phrase memberikan konteks dan informasi tambahan terhadap kalimat yang ditulis sehingga lebih spesifik. Phrase tidak bisa berdiri sendiri sebagai kalimat.
